Holidays in Andalusia

Spanish traditions, processions, and street life in Málaga and the traditional white villages.

The sun slowly sets behind the mountains, but the warmth lingers in the narrow streets of Andalusia.

Locals and families gather.
The scent of rosemary scattered on the street greets you.
Amidst the murmur, a gently building tension is palpable.

In squares, in streets, everywhere you feel it: this is what life in Southern Spain is really like.

In villages like Alhaurín el Grande, Coín, and Mijas, close to Málaga, it is all about togetherness, tradition, and street life.
And you can be a part of that.

The music can already be heard in the distance.

Processions move through the streets, with candlelight, silence, and impressive religious statues.

The traditional costumes are worn with care. An age-old Spanish tradition in Andalusia that you don't just see, but feel.

Holidays to experience in Andalusia:

March 29 to April 5 – Semana Santa
One of the biggest traditional events in Spain. During the week before Easter, the focus is on the Passion. The story of the suffering regarding the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In the processions, you see parts of this story depicted on large thrones, often featuring a statue of Christ or Mary.

May 3 – Día de la Cruz (Day of the Cross)
Streets and squares are decorated with flowers and crosses. Everyone wears green — visitors are also allowed to participate in this typical Spanish holiday.

June 8 – Día del Jesús
An important local holiday in the Málaga region with processions and music. The streets and houses are decorated with flowers and banners, among other things. And statues are showered with flowers from their balconies — impressive.

You don't have to understand it to feel it.
You just have to be there.

Along the route, you will find plenty of bars and restaurants where you can enjoy a snack or a drink with tapas in between or afterwards.
